My Summer 2025 Reads (So Far!)

We are fully into the season of summer, and I have just been devouring my summer reading list! I tend to enjoy reading based on seasons and holidays because why not immerse myself in the spirit of that season?! I personally feel like this is also the time of the year where I read the most, and I’m now only 4 books away from my 2025 reading goal (I fully suspect I will smash it very shortly)!

Whether you’re a big reader looking for new recommendations, someone who just likes to pick up a book here and there, or if you’re just curious what I’ve been reading this summer, and what I think of each book (without spoilers!), let’s get into my summer 2025 reads!

Books No. 1

One Golden Summer

By Carley Fortune | ★★★★★

Nothing says summer to me quite like when Carley Fortune releases a new book, and unsurprisingly, this one is PHENOMENAL. This might just be my favourite book I’ve read (yet) this summer. It’s got everything from some spice, the perfect Canadian cottage country scenery and loveable characters. Super easy read, and I definitely recommend!

Books No. 2

Great Big Beautiful Life

By Emily Henry | ★★★★★

I know the reviews on Great Big Beautiful Life have been hot and cold, but I personally really loved it. This storyline is very different from EmHen’s other books, and I think that’s what stood out to me about it. Though I haven’t read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, many people say that this reminds them of that book.

Books No. 3

Say You'll Remember Me

By Abby Jimenez | ★★★★

I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with Abby Jimenez books if I’m being perfectly honest. I love that they’re easy to read with cute storylines, but there’s just always something so painfully unrealistic about her MMC. Don’t get me wrong, that’s not necessarily a downer for everyone! But it makes the book feel really far fetched to me when I’m reading it… but that’s just my personal opinion. Overall it was still a cute read, but be wary of the trigger warnings at the start of the book.

Books No. 4-6

The Summer I Turned Pretty Series

By Jenny Han | ★★★.75

After having watched the first two seasons of The Summer I Turned Pretty (and impatiently awaiting season 3), I wanted to dive into this series. Maybe it’s because I’m a bit too old, or maybe Jenny Han is just really that good of a writer, but it’s so painfully obvious these were geared towards teenagers, and I was far too old to be reading them. Thankfully they redeemed Belly on the show, because the book version… ouf. Proceed with caution if you’re over the age of 20, because she will annoy you. However, these books are dripping with perfect summer vibes too, so that helped me make my way through them!

Books No. 7

Off The Map

By Trish Doller | ★★★.25

This was a quick little library loan that I grabbed while trying to decide what to read next, and I have to say I quite enjoyed it! The scenery in rural Ireland is so beautifully described, and made me desperately want to book a flight there immediately. Overall, I found the story to be very middle of the road, but still enjoyable.

Books No. 8

Maine Characters

By Hannah Orenstein | ★★★★.75

When I say this book is going to stick with me forever and ever, I mean it. I went into this one having a bit of trouble getting into the story and characters, and in fact, one of the FMCs is so unbearably annoying to me at the start. But, by the end, I couldn’t have loved this book more. The storyline is so unique and the conclusion was well thought out and relatively unexpected from what I thought was going to happen.

Books No. 9

One Italian Summer

By Rebecca Serle | ★★★★.75

The last book that I’ve read (so far) this summer was One Italian Summer, and again, much like Maine Characters, I think this one is going to stick with me. The storyline was so different in the best way, and was such a beautiful story about finding yourself and navigating grief. I truly couldn’t recommend this one more.

Okay, there you have it — everything that I’ve read this summer… so far! I’m currently making my way through What Happens in Amsterdam by Rachel Lynn Soloman, and though I’m only a couple of chapters in, I know I’m going to love it since I just absolutely fell in love with Amsterdam when we visited a couple of years ago (check out that blog here!). Let me know what you’ve been reading this summer in the comments below.

Until next time... Emily
