My Favourite Cottagecore Holiday Decor for 2025

When it comes to content around the holiday season, I typically like to wait until November 1 and kick it off with my Canadian Small Shop Holiday Gift Guide (maybe come back on that exact day, for that exact blog…), but this year, I’ve been getting into the holiday spirit a little early. Shops are starting to promote their holiday decor, and I figured, now is the time to talk about my favourite cottagecore holiday decor for this year! If I’m being honest, this is the time of the year that I get most excited for… I didn’t even decorate for Halloween this year, and I’m just so excited to get into the Christmas season!

Please note that this blog is meant to provide inspiration, and not necessarily to say “you must purchase this!”, though there are affiliate links to all of the products shown throughout the blog in case you’re interested in grabbing them for your collection. I hope you’ll use this blog as a way to craft your holiday decor if you also love a cottagecore vibe, and build upon your current collection to make it perfect for you

Holiday Music

If you ask me, nothing says the holiday season quite like the perfect holiday playlist. For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved Christmas music, especially the old stuff (think Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby, Etta James), but I do have a bit of a soft spot for some newer pieces too (like Christmas Tree Farm by Taylor Swift, because it has that old timey vibe to it!). I love to throw on my holiday playlist while I decorate, but ever since I got a record player, it’s been fun to play my Christmas records too! If you’re looking for a lengthy holiday playlist, check mine out on Spotify, below (don’t worry, I have this playlist available on Apple Music too!).

Choosing the Perfect Palette

While on my journey to find my personal home decor style, one thing that I’ve found so important is figuring out what colours I really like. Neutrals were in for so long, adding colour in felt daunting. Now, I know a lot of people will disagree with me on this, but I’ve never really been a big fan of the classic holiday red. I like it for other people’s spaces, but in mine, I find it intense, and frankly, just not my favourite. For me, the perfect cottagecore holiday colour palette consists of shades of blue, green, browns & golds, with a hint of silver. I do like to throw in the occasional pop of soft pinks, and even butter yellow here and there too. I personally have found that sticking to a general colour palette has helped me narrow down what I like, and makes the space feel intentional and cohesive, while still magical & nostalgic.

Textures & Patterns

When it comes to including textures & patterns in my holiday decor, I tend to favour natural fibres and materials, such as wood and burlap, as much as possible, and this includes primarily wrapping gifts in wrapping paper that can be recycled such as craft paper. Though, it’d be naive to not acknowledge that we do live in a world where lots of things are made of plastic, it’s difficult to entirely avoid. Ribbon is typically polyester or satin, both of which aren’t natural materials, so I like to re-use them where I can.

I’m also a huge fan of velvet in my holiday decor! I have three colours of velvet bows that I like to add to my tree, and throughout my home – green, blue and brown. Adding them to these areas just makes it feel so whimsical and dainty!

Cottagecore-Inspired Ornaments

If you ask me, the cottagecore style has a few main elements to it: lots of pattern, a strong colour palette, and an emphasis on cottage-inspired topics like crafts, farm animals & gardening! Because of this, I also love to incorporate ornaments inspired by these topics throughout my tree, but especially farm animals. I actually grew up across the street from a farm, so including ornaments that feature bunnies, mice, cows, geese, chickens, lambs, pigs, etc is not only right in line with my style, but gives me a nostalgia vibe, and isn’t that what Christmas is all about? Plus, since I love to garden, and craft, and it fits my style, including a sewing machine, and gardening tool-shaped ornaments.

So there you have it – my favourite cottagecore holiday decor of 2025. I hope this blog provided you with a little inspiration to maybe use some decorations that you forgot you had, or build upon your collection that will last you a lifetime (and maybe you’ll even pass down through generations!). Come back November 1st for the very first gift guide of the year, with more to follow shortly after

Until next time... Emily
