5 of My Favourite Hobbies I’m Bringing Into 2026
For me, the year of 2025 was focused around getting offline, doing more tactile projects, and reconnecting with things that I love to do aside from scrolling. Over the last couple of years, I’ve tried out so many new crafts and "grandma hobbies”, and while I have enjoyed each of them in their own way, some have become projects that I get so excited about, and look forward to the next one when I’m completed the current one. These are the hobbies that I’m planning to bring with me into 2026 (and beyond!).
01. Baking
One thing that I’ve really gotten into over the last couple of years has been baking things from scratch. A lot of my desire to start baking has stemmed from realizing that if modern grocery stores went away, I wouldn’t know how to make some of the most basic things like bread. I’ve now not only mastered a simple bread recipe, but I don’t even need the recipe I’ve made it so many times! Plus, I got the cutest Mason Cash Home to Roost mixing bowls, and I just love any excuse to pull those out.
02. Knitting
This one is a new hobby, but one that I have hyper fixated on like no one’s business is knitting! I only have ever made a scarf (that I never finished… oops), so when I decided I wanted to attempt making mittens, I knew I had my work cut out for me. I’ve not only made 4 individual mittens over the course of a month, but I’ve combined 2 patterns into one and made some chicken mittens that I’m in love with! My next project will probably be a Sophie Hood, or maybe some socks…
03. Reading
This definitely isn’t new, but if you were to ask me even 5 years ago if you thought I’d love reading, I would’ve told you absolutely not. Reading has really offered me an escape from reality (and all of the dread that comes with it!), and helps me to relax while getting my mind off things. I have officially read more books in 2025 than I did in 2024, and I’m likely on track to finish close to 40 books this year which is huge for me!
04. Gardening
Another hobby that isn’t new, but has been getting stronger each and every year is gardening! Over the last few years, I’ve gotten more and more into my gardening journey, and I’m attempting seed saving for the first time this winter. I personally love to grow cut flowers, but eventually (when space permits), growing more food is definitely in my gardening plan.
05. Embroidery
Last, but certainly not least, is embroidery. I can’t even totally remember why I tried embroidery, but I absolutely love doing it! It gives me something to focus on, which has been great for when I’m feeling anxious, and it’s relatively affordable for the materials, so if you’re looking for a low-cost hobby to get started with, I definitely recommend trying embroidery!
So those are my favourite offline hobbies that I’m loving and bringing into the new year, and hopefully beyond! Over the course of the last couple of years, I’ve also tried out pottery, ceramic painting (which I do love too, but I don’t do often!), and clay making. In 2026, I’m hoping to get back into sewing as well… if I can make my own clothing and accessories by sewing and knitting, I feel quite confident I wouldn’t buy very much clothing ever again!
